Bound by Hope: Saving Community Livestock Through the Drought’s Challenge

Dr. Isaac Moyo de-worming a cow.

In the heart of the African bush, the ongoing drought has left many animals struggling for survival. At Wild Bhiza, we believe in the power of community and education to make a difference during these challenging times in helping the community livestock from death. Our mission is not just about immediate relief but also about fostering sustainable practices that will benefit both the animals and the farmers in the long run.

As the drought continues, many local communities are facing tough decisions. One of our initiatives encourages these local farmers is to sell some of their livestock, such as cows and donkeys. This strategy helps ensure that the remaining animals receive better care and nourishment, ultimately enhancing their chances of survival.

Currently, we are actively supporting several cows in the area by providing them with locally made mineral blocks. These blocks are essential for the health and wellbeing of the animals, especially during periods of food scarcity. Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, we’ve raised $125 to fund this initiative, and every contribution counts!

Success Story Saving Community Livestock

We’re thrilled to share that the Hi-Pro feed we provided has made a significant difference to the community livestock! One of the cows, which had been struggling, was able to stand today—a testament to the success of our efforts. Your donations truly matter. For just $10, you can help save a cow and contribute to our ongoing mission.

Our educational efforts are yielding positive results. We’ve been working closely with the owner of this cow, guiding proper feeding practices. In a remarkable turn of events, the owner even sold four chickens to purchase additional feed, demonstrating the impact of our educational initiatives.

Community Collaboration

Our collaboration with Dr. Isaac Moyo from CARE (Community Animals Research Education) has been invaluable. Together, we de-wormed the cow and emphasised the importance of maintaining a clean environment by removing rubbish, broken glass, and plastic from the homestead—items that pose a risk to animal health.
