Empowering Communities: Free Animal Vet Care at Wild Bhiza

Rural animals are the unsung heroes of Zimbabwean villages. This week, Wild Bhiza hosted a free animal vet care with Dr. Isaac Moyo, helping donkeys, goats, dogs, and more get the care they need.

Wild Bhiza and CARE team up to help local animals and teach families how to care for them.

At Wild Bhiza Horse Riding Trails near Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, our mission goes beyond trail rides and horseback adventures. We’re deeply committed to animal welfare and community support. This week, we proudly hosted an animal welfare day, a free animal vet care led by the compassionate and experienced Dr. Isaac Moyo, with support from CARE – Community Animals Research & Education.

Why Rural Animal Care Matters in Zimbabwe

In the rural villages surrounding Victoria Falls, animals are vital to survival and everyday life. Donkeys transport water and goods, cattle plough fields, goats provide milk, and dogs guard homes. However, access to veterinary care in rural Zimbabwe is often scarce or unaffordable, leaving both animals and their owners vulnerable.

Lack of animal health education means many families are unaware of the signs of illness, malnutrition, or injury. Without intervention, these animals – and the people who depend on them – suffer needlessly.

Community Veterinary Outreach: What We Offered

During our Animal Care Day at Wild Bhiza Stables, we welcomed dozens of local villagers for a day of free veterinary services and hands-on animal care education. Under Dr. Moyo’s expert guidance, the event provided:

  • Health checks for donkeys, cattle, goats, and dogs
  • Vaccinations against preventable diseases
  • Wound treatment and deworming
  • Nutrition and feeding advice
  • Animal welfare education for all ages

Many attendees had never had access to a veterinarian before. Some walked long distances with their animals to receive care – a testament to the deep bond between people and their working animals.

Empowering Communities Through Animal Education

The goal wasn’t just to treat animals for a day – it was to build knowledge and confidence in caring for them long term. By teaching basic signs of illness, proper feeding, and preventative care, we’re helping to create a future where healthy animals support stronger, more resilient communities.

Our Commitment to Ongoing Animal Welfare in Victoria Falls

This was just the beginning. Wild Bhiza, together with organisations like CARE and dedicated professionals like Dr. Isaac Moyo, will continue to expand access to sustainable animal health services in remote areas.

We believe that no animal should suffer because of poverty or lack of access to care, and that healthy animals mean healthier, happier communities.
