If you’re dreaming of an unforgettable African horseback adventure road trip with horses, friendships, and scenic landscapes, look no further than Wild Bhiza’s latest adventure: a cross-country journey to welcome two exceptional new horses, Rolo and Red, into the Wild Bhiza family.

Finding the Perfect Horses: Rolo and Red

After five months of dedicated searching across South Africa, American horsewoman and trusted friend of Wild Bhiza, Jennah, discovered two remarkable horses, Rolo and Red. Their temperament, health, and spirit made them the ideal additions to our growing herd in Chisuma, Zimbabwe.

From Johannesburg to Victoria Falls: An African Horse Transport Adventure

The journey began with Lisa and Holly flying from Victoria Falls to Johannesburg, South Africa, where they met up with Jennah to start the cross-border horse transport.

  • Stop 1: Phaeton Park Stables, Johannesburg
Here, we met Rolo, a calm, intelligent gelding who handled loading like a seasoned traveller.
  • Stop 2: Bela-Bela, Limpopo
Next, we picked up Red, a speedy quarter horse chestnut with a loving nature and spirit.

With both horses safely loaded, our road trip from South Africa to Zimbabwe officially began.

Border Crossings and Scenic Drives Through Botswana

Driving north toward the Botswana border at Martins Drift, the team navigated international customs, veterinary paperwork, and plenty of curious stares. That night, the team rested in Francistown, Botswana, giving Rolo and Red time to relax after their first long haul together.

The following day brought a scenic ride toward Kazungula, where the crew crossed back into Zimbabwe, just an hour’s drive from Victoria Falls.

Arrival at Wild Bhiza Stables, Zimbabwe

After five action-packed days on the road, Rolo and Red arrived at their new home: Wild Bhiza Stables in Chisuma, Zimbabwe. Since arriving, they’ve been integrating beautifully into their new environment.

They’ve bonded with fellow Wild Bhiza horses, Joss our pup and and cautiously made friends with the farm’s extended family: ducks, a cow, a donkey, and yes—even some mischievous goats.

Natural Horsemanship, Trail Rides & New Beginnings

Rolo and Red are already joining us on gentle horseback trail rides through the local village paths and taking part in natural horsemanship training sessions. Their personalities are blossoming, and they are quickly becoming favourites among the Wild Bhiza crew and guests alike.

Gratitude and Community

This journey wouldn’t have been possible without:

  • Jennah – for her expert eye and devotion in selecting Rolo and Red.
  • Holly – for on-the-road support, snacks, laughter, and documenting every moment.
  • Damian from Marks Horse Transport – for getting us home safely and keeping spirits high.
