Over the past three months, we’ve had the pleasure of welcoming intern Madeline from the Jafuta Foundation into our stables. From her first day to her final week, Madeline has impressed us with her enthusiasm, dedication, and growth—both in horsemanship and personal confidence.
Madeline came to us with a keen interest in animals, and through hands-on experience, she quickly adapted to the rhythm of stable life in Chisuma. She immersed herself in all aspects of horse care, from grooming and feeding to tacking up for trail rides. Under the guidance of our team, she gained a deep understanding of natural horsemanship principles, building trust-based relationships with the horses and learning to ride with calmness and clarity.
Beyond the horses, Madeline showed genuine curiosity and care for the other animals on the property. She took part in the daily care routines of our goats, donkeys, ducks, and chickens – developing a broad knowledge of livestock management.
Her growth over the three months has been nothing short of inspiring. We watched her confidence around horses blossom as she learned to handle them with ease and empathy. She also participated in vet care training, expanding her practical knowledge in animal health and welfare. Additionally, she took part in our local community animal education programs – helping us teach and inspire others about responsible animal care.
Madeline also stepped into a leadership role by assisting with children’s riding lessons and client trail rides. Her ability to communicate, support and teach others not only strengthened her own skills but also made her a valuable member of our team.
Thank you, Madeline, for your dedication, kindness and commitment. We wish you all the best on your journey ahead -you’ll always have a place in our herd.
